My aim is to present the traditional rhythms and dances in the forms in which they have been handed down and, for this element, I rely on the work of a range of ethno-choreographers and their collections. I make no claim, however, to present some kind of 'authentic' tradition, and this clash between notions of modernity and tradition will form part of the workshop itself, as will varieties of Tarantella emerging today.

Over the two days of the workshop, musical developments in southern Italy, as well as the cultural background to the Tarantella phenomenon will be addressed in both narrative and video formats.
